The Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced that the recently issued commemorative Rs. 2000 banknote will be gradually released into circulation through licensed commercial banks.
The special note, introduced on 29 August 2025 to mark the Central Bank’s 75th anniversary, is currently being integrated into the banking system. Licensed commercial banks are in the process of calibrating their cash handling machines to ensure smooth acceptance and distribution.
The Central Bank said the release of the new banknote will continue in line with the pace of this process and assured that once calibration is complete, the note will be available without disruption from all banks.
