Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe said a life insurance cover worth Rs. 300,000 will be provided to consumers who make purchases exceeding Rs. 10,000 per month through cooperative stores.
The Minister also stated that steps will be taken to extend life insurance coverage to cooperative employees, while ensuring they receive satisfactory salaries.
He made these remarks while speaking to the media following the release of results of the Regional Twenty-Five elections held yesterday (07) to select representatives to the General Assembly of the Anuradhapura Various Services Cooperative Society.
Meanwhile, Samarasinghe added that action will also be taken to enforce existing laws related to fraud and corruption within the cooperative sector.
