Hambantota Salt Limited Chairman T.K. Nandana Thilaka has announced that salt prices will rise this month, citing increased costs of imports from India.
As a result, the price of a 400-gram packet of table salt is expected to increase to Rs. 120, while a one-kilogram packet of granular salt will be sold for Rs. 180.
The government had granted permission to two importers to bring in salt from India following damage to local salterns caused by recent adverse weather conditions.
