Senior Police and Prison Officers Transferred with Immediate Effect

Thirty-two senior police officers, including nine Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and 16 Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), have been transferred with immediate effect, according to a statement from the Police Media Division.

The transfers were approved by the National Police Commission, and are part of routine administrative measures aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within the police service.

Among the key changes, DIG Nihal Thalduwa, who previously oversaw the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CCIB), has been appointed as the DIG in charge of the Monaragala District. Meanwhile, DIG J.R. Dias, currently serving as DIG (Staff), has been assigned additional responsibilities as the DIG in charge of the CCIB.

In addition to the DIGs and SSPs, two Superintendents of Police (SPs) and five Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) have also been reassigned to new postings.

Separately, the Department of Prisons announced a series of transfers involving two Special Grade Superintendents, one Superintendent, eight Assistant Superintendents, and five Acting Superintendents of Prisons. These changes will also come into effect on 02 July 2025.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration approved the prison officers’ transfers, which were carried out to streamline institutional administration, taking into account seniority and service requirements.
