Shammi Silva Re-elected Unopposed as Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman for Fourth Term

Shammi Silva has been re-elected uncontested as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for a fourth consecutive term. His appointment was confirmed during the board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held today (31), and he will serve another two-year term from 2025 to 2027.

Silva, a prominent businessman, also holds the position of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman, a role he assumed in December 2023, succeeding current ICC Chairman Jay Shah.

His tenure has not been without controversy. In 2023, Silva faced a dispute with then-Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who appointed an interim committee to replace the SLC administration, citing personal clashes. This move led to Sri Lanka’s temporary suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC). As a direct consequence, the ICC relocated the 2024 U-19 Men’s World Cup, originally scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, to South Africa.

Following Ranasinghe’s dismissal, the courts reinstated Silva’s administration, allowing SLC to resume its operations under his leadership.

In addition to Silva’s re-election, the following officials were also elected uncontested for the 2025-2027 term:

  • Vice Presidents: Jayantha Dharmadasa & Ravin Wickramaratne
  • Secretary: Bandula Dissanayake
  • Treasurer: Sujeewa Godaliyadda
  • Assistant Secretary: Chryshantha Kapuwatte
  • Assistant Treasurer: Lasantha Wickremesinghe
