Shanakiyan Rasamanickam to Table Private Member’s Bill to Amend Provincial Councils Elections Act

A Private Member’s Bill aimed at amending the Provincial Councils Elections Act No. 2 of 1988 is scheduled to be presented in Parliament, in a bid to remove obstacles preventing the long-delayed Provincial Council Elections.

The motion will be tabled by Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Batticaloa District MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam during an upcoming parliamentary session.

According to MP Rasamanickam, the proposed bill is expected to address and eliminate the current legal and procedural barriers that have hindered the holding of Provincial Council polls for several years.

The move is seen as a significant step toward restoring democratic governance at the provincial level.
