The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says showers or thundershowers are expected at times today (18) in:
- Western Province
- Sabaragamuwa Province
- Central Province
- North-Western Province
- Northern Province
- Galle District
- Matara District
According to the Department, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in:
- Western Province
- Sabaragamuwa Province
- Galle District
- Matara District
- Kandy District
- Nuwara Eliya District
Several spells of showers are also expected in Anuradhapura District.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in:
- Uva Province
- Eastern Province
- Polonnaruwa District
after 1:00 p.m.
The Department further noted that fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over:
- The western slopes of the central hills
- Northern Province
- North-Central Province
- North-Western Province
- Hambantota District
The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
