Showers and Strong Winds Forecast Across Several Parts of Sri Lanka Today

June 11, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times today (11) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The Department stated that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in these areas.

Meanwhile, strong winds with speeds of around 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee.

Fairly strong winds of approximately 30–40 kmph are also expected in other parts of the island.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall associated with thundershowers.

Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain vigilant and stay informed of weather updates as unsettled weather conditions continue to affect several parts of the country.
