The Department of Meteorology announced that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts today (19).
In addition, showers or thundershowers are expected in several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm is likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may also be experienced at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the North-central, North-western, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, the Department added.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risks from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
