Showers will occur at times in Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Polonnaruwa districts today (29), the Department of Meteorology said.
The Department warned that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm may occur at some locations in these areas.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Northern Province and in the Kandy, Anuradhapura, and Trincomalee districts, according to the Met Department.
Showers or thundershowers are also forecast at several places in Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts after 2.00 p.m.
Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of around 40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in the Hambantota, Monaragala, and Trincomalee districts.
Misty conditions are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts, during the early hours of the morning.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
