May 4, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa, Galle, and Matara districts after 2:00 p.m. today (04), according to the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Morning showers are also expected in coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts.

The Department further stated that fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Misty conditions are likely during the early morning in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara district.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
