The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers today (22) in parts of the country, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.
In addition, showers or thundershowers are expected in a few areas within the Uva Province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.
Fairly strong winds, ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, are also likely at times across the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, Southern, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
