Several spells of showers are expected today (24) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Department further stated that showers or thundershowers may occur at a few locations in the Uva Province and in the districts of Ampara and Batticaloa after 2.00 p.m.
Meanwhile, fairly strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces and the Trincomalee District.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and other weather-related hazards associated with thundershowers.
Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to remain vigilant, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, and to stay updated with weather advisories issued by the relevant authorities.
