Showers, Thundershowers, and Strong Winds Expected in Several Provinces Today

The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers at intervals today (May 23) across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Further, evening or nighttime showers or thundershowers are expected in parts of Uva Province, and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa districts. Isolated showers may also occur elsewhere across the country.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy districts.

The Meteorology Department has also cautioned of fairly strong winds, ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, especially over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, including the Trincomalee district.

The public is kindly urged to take appropriate precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
