February 19, 2026

Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says showers will occur at times in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa district today (19).

Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely at some places in Uva Province and in the Matale, Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.

Several spells of showers are expected in the Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur at several places elsewhere after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds of about 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Matale, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Misty conditions are likely at some locations in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the early morning hours.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
