Showers to Increase Across Sri Lanka from Tomorrow; Strong Winds and Fog Forecast

December 15, 2025

The Department of Meteorology has warned that rain conditions may increase slightly across the island from tomorrow (16) due to the influence of an easterly wind flow.

A few spells of rain are expected in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, while showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds of about 30–40 kmph are expected in some areas on the eastern slopes of the Central Hills, in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in the Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.

Foggy conditions are also likely in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts during the early morning hours.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
