Showery Conditions Expected to Ease in Southwestern Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology states that the prevailing showery conditions over the southwestern part of the island are expected to gradually reduce from tomorrow (June 1).

However, showers or thundershowers will still occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kalutara, Galle, and Matara districts, the department added.

Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The general public is kindly advised to take appropriate precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
