Showery Conditions Expected to Ease Temporarily From Today Until February 11

February 8, 2026

Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka said the prevailing showery conditions across the island are expected to temporarily reduce from today (08) until 11 February 2026.

A few showers may still occur in the Uva Province and in the Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Ampara, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa districts.

Showers or thundershowers may also develop at a few places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m., the Department said.

Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in the Matale, Trincomalee, and Hambantota districts.

Misty conditions are likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Badulla districts during the early morning hours.

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
