The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka says the prevailing rainy conditions over the south-western parts of Sri Lanka are expected to continue.
According to the Department, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in:
- Western Province
- Sabaragamuwa Province
- North-Western Province
as well as in:
- Galle District
- Matara District
- Kandy District
- Nuwara Eliya District
Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is expected at some locations, particularly in:
- Galle District
- Matara District
- Kalutara District
- Ratnapura District
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in:
- Uva Province
- Ampara District
- Batticaloa District
after 1:00 p.m.
The Department further warned that fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph may occur at times over:
- Western slopes of the central hills
- Northern Province
- North-Central Province
- North-Western Province
- Southern Province
- Trincomalee District
The public has been advised to take precautions against:
- Temporary localized strong winds
- Lightning during thundershowers
- Falling trees and reduced visibility
- Waterlogging and localized flooding in vulnerable areas
Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions as south-west monsoon activity remains active across the island.
