The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has launched a special programme aimed at achieving the national tourism targets set for 2026.
SLTDA Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam said a series of promotional campaigns will be carried out in European countries to attract visitors during periods traditionally considered the tourism “off-season.”
He noted that tourists from Spain and nearby regions tend to travel during the summer months, and promotional activities will therefore be focused on those specific markets.
As part of the wider strategy, a tourism promotion campaign has already been conducted in India, covering key cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
Hewawasam said the main objective of the Indian campaign is to diversify the tourist profile and attract high-spending visitors to Sri Lanka.
He also highlighted a strong start to the year, revealing that more than 94,000 tourists arrived in the country within the first week of January 2026.
