Southern Province Governor Bandula Harischandra Passes Away

The Governor of the Southern Province, Bandula Harischandra, has passed away at the age of 62, according to confirmed reports.

Harischandra is said to have died following a sudden illness while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

A respected Senior Administrative Officer, he had a long and distinguished career in public service. He completed his secondary education at Sri Palee College, Horana, and later graduated from the University of Kelaniya.

Harischandra joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) in 1991, beginning his career as the Assistant District Commissioner of Elections for the Ampara District, later serving in the same role in Galle.

He went on to hold several key administrative positions, including:

  • Divisional Secretary, Galle Four Gravets

  • Additional District Secretary, Galle

  • Acting District Secretary, Galle

  • District Secretary, Ratnapura

  • District Secretary, Hambantota

  • Secretary, Ministry of Social Empowerment, Welfare & Kandyan Heritage

  • Secretary, Department of Wildlife Conservation

  • Additional Controller General, Department of Immigration and Emigration

Harischandra’s leadership and service across multiple sectors earned him wide respect within the public administration community. His passing marks a significant loss for the Southern Province and the country.
