Special transport services are continuing today to facilitate passengers travelling to their hometowns for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) stated that around 1,500 additional buses are operating alongside regular services. A further 50 buses have been kept on standby at depots around Colombo to be deployed based on demand.
Meanwhile, Director General of the National Transport Commission, Nilan Miranda, said inter-provincial bus services are operating from key hubs including Bastian Mawatha, Kadawatha, Makumbura and Kaduwela.
The Railway Department also confirmed that special train services will continue until April 19 to support festive travel.
Accordingly, special trains are operating on routes such as Colombo Fort–Anuradhapura, Anuradhapura–Kankesanthurai, Maradana–Matara and Maradana–Beliatta.
In addition, the Rajarata Rejini train has been extended from Beliatta to Anuradhapura during the festive period, while the Maho office train from Colombo Fort will also run up to Anuradhapura today.
These services are aimed at assisting both outbound and returning passengers during the New Year season.
