Colombo, 26 May 2025 – A focused dengue eradication program conducted from 19 to 24 May across 15 districts has led to the inspection of 128,824 premises, the Ministry of Health announced today.
The comprehensive campaign inspected a wide range of locations, including 119,677 homes, 257 schools, 304 other educational institutions, 789 government offices, 5,025 private institutions, 700 construction sites, 195 factories, 263 public places, and 514 religious premises.
Health officials identified 31,145 premises with potential mosquito breeding sites, of which 6,077 contained active mosquito larvae. Authorities issued red notices to 3,916 locations and initiated legal action in 1,470 cases to curb the spread of dengue.
The program was implemented under the directives of Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa and Health Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, in response to the increased dengue risk associated with the active southwest monsoon season.
The Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain vigilant by inspecting and cleaning their premises at least once a week to prevent mosquito breeding, highlighting the importance of sustaining the progress made during the campaign.
Support for the initiative was provided by the military, police, Civil Security Department, and various volunteer organizations, who played a crucial role in ensuring the campaign’s success.
