Sri Lanka Police have launched a special traffic operation during the festive season with the goal of reducing traffic accidents across the island.
The operation is mainly focused on long-distance bus drivers who are found violating traffic rules and driving recklessly.
To improve enforcement, officers in civilian clothes have been deployed to monitor passenger buses and travel on long-distance routes. These officers will track violations such as reckless driving, using mobile phones while driving, overtaking at pedestrian crossings, and speeding.
After observing these violations, uniformed officers will stop buses at various locations, inform the drivers of their infractions, and take appropriate legal action. The overall aim of the operation is to ensure safer roads during the busy holiday season.
