In preparation for Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day celebrations on February 4, 2025, the Colombo Traffic Division has implemented a special traffic plan to manage vehicle movement around Independence Square.
The traffic plan will be enforced during rehearsals on January 29, 30, and 31, as well as February 1 and 2, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Several roads in Cinnamon Gardens will be temporarily closed during these periods, including:
- Wijerama Mawatha to Vidya Mawatha
- Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Maitland Place
- Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Prema Keerthi De Alwis Mawatha
- Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha to Foundation Road
- Independence Roundabout to Independence Square
- Horton Place to Maitland Crescent Junction towards Independence Roundabout
- R.G. Senanayake Mawatha to Maitland Crescent towards Independence Roundabout
- Entrance to Maitland Crescent from the Independence Roundabout
The police urge residents and commuters to use alternative routes during these times to avoid congestion.
