The annual Sri Dalada Esala Perahera at the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy is set to commence on July 25.
The festivities will begin with the traditional ‘Kap planting’ ritual at the four main devalayas, followed by the five-day Ethul Perahera procession, according to Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Chief Custodian of Sri Dalada Maligawa.
The Kumbal Perahera and Randoli Perahera processions are scheduled to take place over ten days, starting from July 30.
Pradeep Nilanga Dela also highlighted that a shortage of elephants for the Esala Perahera has become a significant concern this year.
