Sri Lanka and Vietnam Hold Talks to Strengthen Defence Cooperation

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Sri Lanka, Sampath Thuyacontha, held bilateral discussions with Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, and his delegation on May 8 at Hilton Colombo.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

During the meeting, the Defence Secretary thanked the Vietnamese Government and the visiting delegation for their continued support and cooperation.

General Phan Van Giang reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to deepening engagement with Sri Lanka’s defence sector in areas of mutual interest. He also congratulated Sri Lanka on its recent progress and reiterated support for a secure and cooperative partnership between the two countries.

The Vietnamese delegation included:

  • Tran Cong Chinh, Director General of GDDI
  • Vu Thanh Van, Director General of the Foreign Relations Department
  • Nguyen Ngoc Dai, Defence Attaché to India

Senior officials from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence, including the Senior Additional Secretary and the Military Liaison Officer, also participated in the discussions.
