In preparation for the 2025 Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) elections, the membership at an extraordinary general meeting on December 20, 2024, approved significant constitutional amendments aimed at improving the governance and transparency of the cricketing body.
One of the key reforms is the reduction in the number of voting members from 147 to 60. Voting rights will now be granted based on the level of cricket played by each member club, with each eligible club and association entitled to one vote. This restructuring is expected to streamline decision-making and ensure that those with a genuine stake in the development of cricket have a more significant say in the governance of the sport.
Additionally, in a bid to enhance financial transparency, the membership has unanimously approved the formation of several new committees, including the Audit Committee, Investment and Budget Committee, and Related Party Transactions Committee. These committees will play a crucial role in overseeing SLC’s financial management.
SLC has also appointed a five-member Election Committee, headed by retired Court of Appeal Judge Ms. Malanie Gunaratne, to oversee the preparations and conduct of the 2025 elections.
These reforms aim to create a more level playing field for cricket stakeholders, ensuring that representation within SLC reflects merit and the contributions made to the sport’s development across Sri Lanka.
