The Sri Lankan government has issued an extraordinary gazette notification announcing the freezing of assets belonging to designated terrorist organizations and individuals.
The directive was announced by Secretary of Defense, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha.
According to the notification, the bank accounts as well as movable and immovable assets of 15 organizations and 117 individuals identified as linked to terrorist activities have been frozen with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Defense clarified that this measure is part of an update to the list of designated terrorist entities and individuals, originally published on March 21, 2014.
The latest amendment includes the addition of eight new individuals to the list, while several previously listed names have been removed. The most recent prior update to the gazette was issued on February 20 of this year.
The government stated that these steps are being taken as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and prevent the financing of extremist activities within and beyond Sri Lanka’s borders.
