“China is one of the friendliest countries to Sri Lanka, and we hope that this friendship will last a long time,” said Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena, highlighting the strength of bilateral relations.
Speaking to Xinhua News Agency during an inspection of the Port Access Elevated Highway project in Colombo, Gunasena underscored the importance of China-Sri Lanka cooperation, particularly in infrastructure development.
“China will continue to be our friend and help us develop our economy,” he stated, referencing China’s continued support for major infrastructure initiatives.
The Deputy Minister was joined by Road Development Authority Director General K.W. Kandambi, officials from the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), and senior Ministry representatives during the visit to assess progress on what will become Sri Lanka’s longest bridge.
Spanning 5.27 km, the Port Access Elevated Highway is a two-way, four-lane structure constructed using advanced segmental box girder prefabrication techniques. The project has now entered its final phase of construction.
“This is a very good project for Sri Lanka,” said Gunasena. “When it is completed, we expect an economic boost. That is the main objective of this project.”
