Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament, Ravi Karunanayake, says Sri Lanka has long been a country that holds onto valuable assets while continuously seeking external assistance.
Speaking to the media, the MP stressed the need to open up the country’s assets to the business community in order to stimulate economic growth and attract investment.
Karunanayake added that the time has come to reform the existing system, which he believes has failed to capitalize on the nation’s economic potential.
He also addressed global challenges, particularly their impact on oil prices, noting that while such issues can influence local markets, there is no reason for unnecessary panic. He reassured that Sri Lanka currently maintains adequate oil reserves to manage the situation.
