A unified timetable system covering both Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and private long-distance buses was officially launched from midnight yesterday (25).
In its first phase, the system applies to buses operating between Colombo and Jaffna via the Puttalam–Chilaw route. Services are being coordinated through the Bastian Mawatha Bus Terminal in Colombo Fort, with the aim of streamlining operations and reducing unhealthy competition between state-owned and private operators.
Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Kumara Gunasena announced that the unified timetable will be expanded to all major routes across the country by the end of next year.
The initiative is seen as a major step toward enhancing efficiency, coordination, and passenger convenience in Sri Lanka’s public transport sector.
