Sri Lanka Lost Global Market Opportunities Due to Political Ideologies – Ravi

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has emphasized the importance of aligning Sri Lanka’s economic strategy with that of India, noting the country’s impressive economic progress.

In an interview with ceylonwire.lk, Karunanayake stated that Sri Lanka stands to gain significantly by cooperating with India and learning from its economic model. “If we work together, we can also achieve beneficial outcomes,” he said.

However, he stressed that the key lies in creating awareness about how such collaboration should be pursued. “This is what market access is all about,” he explained.

Karunanayake also highlighted that Sri Lanka has missed out on critical international trade opportunities for decades, primarily due to entrenched political ideologies and internal geographical divisions.

“Market access is the gateway to connecting Sri Lanka with the global economy,” he added, urging a more pragmatic and unified approach to international trade.
