Sri Lanka Navy Seizes 45.5 kg of Kerala Cannabis Near Delft Island

In a special operation conducted near Delft Island, Jaffna, the Sri Lanka Navy seized approximately 45.5 kilograms of Kerala cannabis adrift in the waters. The operation, carried out by SLNS Wasabha of the Northern Naval Command using an Inshore Patrol Craft, took place last night (December 5).

Naval personnel discovered two suspicious polythene sacks drifting in the area. Upon inspection, the sacks were found to contain 20 parcels of Kerala cannabis, weighing a total of 45.5 kg.

The Navy suspects that the contraband was abandoned by smugglers due to intensified naval operations, which have disrupted their attempts to transport illegal goods ashore.

The street value of the seized cannabis is estimated at over Rs. 18 million. The haul remains in the Navy’s custody and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action.
