The Sri Lanka Navy has seized a vessel carrying a massive haul of illegal narcotics, including 700 kilograms of ICE (methamphetamine) and heroin, during a maritime operation in the seas west of Sri Lanka.
The operation, launched based on intelligence received, led to the interception of the suspicious vessel and the arrest of seven individuals on board, the Navy confirmed in a statement.
The seized contraband and suspects were brought to the Dikowita fishing harbor, where the initial valuation process of the narcotics haul is now underway.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the estimated street value of the drugs, but sources indicate that it is expected to run into billions of rupees.
This marks yet another major success in the Navy’s ongoing efforts to curb international drug trafficking routes operating in regional waters.
Investigations are currently ongoing to identify the origins and destination of the illicit cargo.
