Sri Lanka Records Highest Monthly Tourist Arrivals Since January 2020: 218,350 Visitors in February 2024

Sri Lanka has experienced a significant tourism surge, welcoming 218,350 tourists in February 2024, marking the highest monthly arrival figure since January 2020. This achievement follows another noteworthy milestone in January, where the country recorded over 200,000 arrivals, totaling 208,253, as disclosed by Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news, Minister Fernando highlighted that the estimated earnings for the initial two months of 2024 amount to USD 710 million. This positive trend in tourist arrivals signals a robust recovery for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.

The latest report on external sector performance by the Central Bank, released on Friday (01), further reinforces this upward trajectory. Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings for January 2024 reached an estimated USD 342 million, representing the highest monthly value since January 2020.

Comparing year-on-year data, the country witnessed a substantial increase in tourist arrivals in January, with 208,253 visitors, compared to 102,545 arrivals during the corresponding period in 2023. These encouraging figures underscore the resurgence of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, signifying a positive turn of events for the nation’s economic landscape.
