Sri Lanka has recorded a total of 23,744 dengue cases in the first five months of 2025, according to the latest data released by the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The number of infections has shown a steady increase over recent months, with 3,766 cases in March, 5,166 in April, and 6,042 in May.
The highest case numbers have been reported from the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Ratnapura, and Batticaloa, indicating potential hotspots for intensified vector control efforts.
So far, 13 dengue-related deaths have been reported this year.
Health authorities are warning that the situation may further escalate with the onset of the monsoon rains, which create ideal conditions for mosquito breeding and the spread of infection. The public is urged to remain vigilant, eliminate stagnant water sources, and follow guidelines issued by local health officials to prevent further outbreaks.
