Sri Lanka Secures USD 650 Million in FDI in First Quarter of 2025

Sri Lanka received USD 650 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the first quarter of 2025, according to Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti.

The minister made this announcement in Parliament yesterday (June 4), highlighting that the investment is spread across 64 projects—a notable increase compared to previous years.

“In this quarter alone, USD 650 million in foreign direct investment has come in,” Minister Handunnetti stated. “In 2023, the total FDI was only USD 483 million, and in 2024, it was USD 724 million across 93 projects. But this year, in just the first quarter, we have already received 64 projects worth USD 650 million, according to the BOI Chairman.”

The figures signal growing investor confidence and a promising outlook for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and industrial development.
