The Sri Lanka Police Headquarters has revealed that an annual expenditure of Rs. 1.1 billion is incurred to provide security for former presidents.
The largest share of this expenditure, amounting to over Rs. 326 million annually, is allocated for the security of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The statement further noted that the government has decided to limit the number of police officers assigned for the security of former presidents to 60. This allocation will be periodically reviewed by a designated committee, which will assess and adjust the number of personnel based on necessity.
In addition to police officers, the security arrangements for former presidents, including Mahinda Rajapaksa, also include personnel from the armed forces, ensuring a comprehensive protective framework.
