Sri Lanka has expressed its gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for dispatching emergency relief supplies to communities affected by the recent cyclone.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said he conveyed the government’s appreciation during a telephone conversation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Tamil Nadu sent 950 metric tons of humanitarian aid—including rice, cereals, milk powder, sugar, clothing, and blankets—to support displaced families. The supplies were transported by Indian Navy vessels from Chennai and Thoothukudi.
Herath noted that this assistance demonstrates India’s solidarity during a challenging period and highlighted that people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu continue to grow stronger.
He added that goodwill and cooperation between the two sides are expected to deepen further as recovery efforts advance.
