May 9, 2026

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority says tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka have surpassed the 900,000 mark so far this year.

According to the Authority, a total of 904,855 tourists arrived in the country between January 1 and May 6, 2026.

The highest number of visitors were from India, accounting for 200,796 arrivals. Significant numbers of tourists also arrived from the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, and China.

The SLTDA further stated that 28,578 tourists visited Sri Lanka during the first six days of May alone.

However, tourism data analysis indicates that average daily arrivals in April and May have declined noticeably compared to the stronger figures recorded during January, February, and March.
