Sri Lanka Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire Agreement, Hopes for Lasting Peace

Sri Lanka has extended its support for the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, marking the end of a 15-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism highlighted its optimism regarding the ceasefire’s potential outcomes. “We are hopeful that the ceasefire arrangement, which enables the exchange of hostages and detainees, the return of internally displaced persons to their homes in Gaza, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, will be sustained.”

The Ministry further expressed its aspirations for regional stability, stating, “We are also optimistic that these developments will contribute to the establishment of sustainable peace in Palestine and the region.”
