Sri Lankan organizations marked the 66th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution by visiting the Cuban Embassy in Colombo and extending solidarity to the Caribbean nation, according to diplomatic sources.
Ambassador Andrés González welcomed representatives from the Friendship Association, the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL), and the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) at the embassy.
In addition to the visit, congratulatory messages were sent from Sri Lanka to Cuba, celebrating its revolutionary legacy.
During a prior event chaired by the Cuban Ambassador, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, expressed gratitude for Cuba’s example of resilience and fraternity, wishing continued success to its government and people.
The Democratic Left Front (LDF), led by General Secretary Vasudeva Nanayakkara, reiterated its demand for an end to the US blockade against Cuba, lauding the nation’s enduring resistance against imperialist policies.
The Bolivarian Solidarity Group of Sri Lanka hailed the Cuban Revolution as a cornerstone of the global anti-imperialist movement, emphasizing Fidel Castro’s pivotal leadership.
Additionally, the National Freedom Front (NFF), in a message signed by its leader and former MP Wimal Weerawansa, commended Cuba’s remarkable achievements in science and healthcare, addressing their congratulations to President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The Sri Lankan groups underscored Cuba’s enduring influence and their solidarity with its people in the face of ongoing challenges.
