Sri Lanka’s 16th National Cyber Security Summit will take place on November 12 at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eng. Eranga Weeraratne announced.
This year’s summit will be held under the theme “Creating a More Trusted Cyber Security Environment for Sri Lanka.” More than 400 local and international delegates are expected to attend.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department, the Minister said the summit brings together policymakers, IT professionals, academics, technology experts, and representatives from the government, private sector, business community, NGOs, and universities. The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Sri Lanka CERT.
He emphasized that conferences of this nature help bring global knowledge and expertise to Sri Lanka and offer valuable opportunities for local experts to expand their skills and demonstrate their capacity on the international stage.
This year’s sub-theme, “Shaping Policies, Enabling Practices and Strengthening National Response Capacity,” aligns with the country’s strategic direction to enhance cyber preparedness, digital trust, and national resilience amid rising cyber threats. The summit aims to promote strong multi-stakeholder collaboration across all sectors.
The conference will open with a welcome address by Thilak Pathirage, Chairman of Sri Lanka CERT, followed by the inaugural address from Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy, who will highlight cybersecurity as the foundation of economic growth and global competitiveness.
A special address will be delivered by Dr. Kanishka Karunasena, Acting CEO of Sri Lanka CERT, focusing on the implementation of the National Cyber Security Strategy. The keynote speech will be presented by Takafumi Kadono, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Sri Lanka, covering global cybersecurity trends shaping Sri Lanka’s preparedness.
Deputy Minister Eng. Eranga Weeraratne will deliver a keynote address on strengthening public trust in digital systems. Additional lectures and thematic sessions will address critical areas such as national cyber governance, infrastructure security, cybersecurity law and data protection, online safety, operational resilience, global cooperation, and responsible use of emerging technologies including AI, cloud computing, and quantum security.
Panel discussions will explore cybersecurity as a catalyst for digital economic growth, legal readiness for a digital nation, public online safety, and responsible adoption of emerging technologies. Experts from diverse fields will contribute insights to support evidence-based policy development.
