Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister to Address UNHRC Session in Geneva

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath is set to address the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, today (25th February) at 3:30 p.m. Geneva time (8:00 p.m. IST).

Minister Herath traveled to Switzerland on Sunday (23rd February) to participate in the 58th session of the UNHRC.

Diplomatic Engagements in Geneva

During his visit, the Minister has held several high-level discussions, including:

  • A bilateral meeting with the UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Lord Collins of Highbury.
  • Talks with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
  • Discussions with Palestinian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Varsen Aghabekian.
  • Engagements with representatives from Switzerland and Pakistan on key diplomatic matters.

Minister Herath’s speech at the UNHRC is expected to address Sri Lanka’s commitment to human rights, foreign relations, and ongoing developments in governance and accountability.
