Sri Lanka’s Inflation Drops to -4% in January 2025

Sri Lanka’s overall inflation rate, as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) on a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, declined to -4% in January 2025, compared to -1.7% in December 2024, according to the latest data from the Department of Census and Statistics.

YoY food inflation saw a drop to -2.6% in January from 0.8% in December, while non-food inflation stood at -4.7%.

Despite the negative YoY inflation, the CCPI for all items increased slightly to 192.6 in January, up from 191.7 in December, with a 0.11% contribution from food and 0.36% from non-food items on a Month-on-Month basis.

The CCPI Core Index, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, also saw an increase to 178.4 in January, compared to 177.1 in December 2024.

The general price level has risen by 92.6% compared to the 2021 index reference.
