Sri Lanka’s President Pledges Investment-Friendly Environment and BOI Independence

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that Sri Lanka’s current political stability has fostered a favorable climate for investment. He assured that new investment opportunities would be free from political interference or favoritism based on affiliations.

During a discussion with senior officials of the Board of Investment (BOI) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, the President emphasized that the BOI would be granted full autonomy to attract transparent and beneficial investments for the country, according to a statement from the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Highlighting the importance of both political and financial stability, President Dissanayake noted the BOI’s critical role in achieving these goals. He stressed that the BOI must fulfill its responsibilities effectively, reiterating his commitment to maintaining the organization’s independence to secure meaningful investments.

The President also announced plans to strengthen the BOI’s efficiency through provisions in the upcoming budget. Furthermore, he revealed initiatives to establish five new investment zones across the country in the coming year.

The meeting was attended by Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, BOI Chairman Arjuna Herath, Director General Renuka M. Weerakone, and other officials.
