Sri Lanka’s Tourism Surges Past 500,000 Arrivals in Early 2025

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is witnessing robust growth, with over 500,000 foreign tourist arrivals recorded in the first two months of 2025, according to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

Buoyed by this strong start, the SLTDA remains optimistic about achieving its target of 3 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year. This follows the successful attainment of the 2024 goal of 2 million visitors.

Between January 1 and March 5, 2025, a total of 530,746 foreign tourists arrived in the country. India remains the top source market, contributing 84,476 visitors, followed by Russia with over 70,000 arrivals and the United Kingdom with more than 50,000. Additionally, significant numbers of tourists have come from Germany, France, and China.

The momentum has continued into March, with approximately 37,768 foreign tourists visiting Sri Lanka in the first five days alone. The surge in arrivals reinforces confidence in the sector’s recovery and growth, reaffirming tourism as a key pillar of the nation’s economy.
