SriLankan Airlines announced that all flights to Nepal have been temporarily suspended until further notice, following the closure of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
The airport was forced to shut down on Tuesday afternoon due to escalating violence in the country, grounding hundreds of passengers and leading to the cancellation of multiple services. Most airlines, including Indian carriers, also suspended flights in response.
According to Indian media, as the situation worsened, several Kathmandu-bound flights circled near the city before being diverted or returned to India. Nepalese aviation authorities later issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), officially confirming the closure of the airport. Flights can resume only after the NOTAM is lifted.
The disruption has affected more than 250 daily flights typically handled by TIA, impacting carriers such as Air India, IndiGo, Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, Singapore Airlines, and Batik Air.
