The state of public emergency has been extended once again in view of the current situation in the country, according to an Extraordinary Gazette Notification signed by the Secretary to the President.
The extension comes into effect from March 28 and is aimed at ensuring public safety, maintaining normalcy, and safeguarding the supply of essential services.
The emergency was initially declared on November 29 following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah. Authorities had previously assured that civil rights would not be violated during this period.
Meanwhile, the Gazette also extends the list of 15 essential services that must continue without disruption. These include electricity, fuel, healthcare, transportation, roads, water supply, food distribution, district and divisional secretariats, ambulance services, the Central Bank, state banks and insurance services, irrigation, telecommunications, media services, land reclamation, as well as agriculture and agricultural insurance.
Officials state that the measures are necessary to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of critical sectors amid ongoing challenges.
